Upgrading Key Organizational Systems

July 1st, 2010 - September 30th, 2010

Organizations today have many key systems and processes in place, most built around a conventional organizational paradigm: budgeting, compensation, hiring, project management, etc. What upgrades are possible for these key processes, upgrades which better align with Holacracy's core paradigm and its focus on sense-and-respond over predict-and-control?

Past Calls

A New Paradigm for Hiring (Jul 14th, 2010) How can hiring methods and their underlying paradigm shift to align with Holacracy's core principles, and to bring the right people into an organization running with Holacracy?  This call will offer an opportunity to interactively explore these questions, and to hear about the novel hiring system used at the software company that originally incubated Holacracy. more
Upgrading Compensation Systems (Jul 27th, 2010) What aspects of traditional compensation systems will limit the paradigm shift Holacracy aims for?  What alternative approaches have been tried, and what principles can we hold and use as we redesign compensation systems?  We'll share some thoughts and stories, although this is a topic still very much in an exploratory phase, and we'll pursue that exploration together live on this call. more
Upgrading Budgeting & Financial Control (Aug 10th, 2010) How do traditional budgeting and financial control systems limit the dynamic self-organizing Holacracy strives for?  Are there more dynamic or more "holarchic" alternatives to financial control that really work?  We'll share some thoughts and stories, although this call will be as much brainstorming from core principles as describing pre-existing ideas, and you're invited to join us on that journey. more
Contracting & Vendor/Client Relationships (Aug 26th, 2010) Conventional fixed-price, fixed-deliverable contracting leaves little room for dynamic steering, yet there are understandable reasons why either client or vendor in a contracting relationship may push for them.  This call will explore more-dynamic approaches to contracting and to structuring client/vendor relationships - ones which embrace the need for control that leads us to the predict-and-control approach, yet deliver on that promise better. more
Getting the Work Done, Holacracy-style (Sep 15th, 2010) Holacracy and its dynamic-steering paradigm offer a powerful platform on which to upgrade the actual operational processes of an organization - how we get the work done.  This call will explore upgrading core operational processes to better harness dynamic steering and take full advantage of the Holacracy operating system. more
